How long have you worked at the 84 Sign Shop?

Just over 2 years

Where did you go to school?

I didn’t go to college or trade school. A lot of my knowledge was learned either through the years a volunteer firefighter or the countless hours watching YouTube videos and deep diving into how things are done.  Although, I just recently was afford the chance to part take in a 3M installer class in Nashville, TN. 

What do you like to do outside of work and what are your hobbies?

I like the outdoors, bike riding walking all those kind of things. But work is my hobby. When I’m not working in the Sign Shop, I’m designing. I work with a video game company as their lead texture maker and design projects for myself such as signs tools and processes to make myself better in the selected field. 

What is your favorite restaurant?

What was your favorite project?

I have worked on so many wonderful and fun projects over my time in the Sign Shop. But to pick one would be hard. I’m always looking for the next challenge to conquer and project to complete.

Meet the Team: Jess B. 150 150 84 Sign Shop

Meet Jess! Jess grew up in South Fayette and still calls it home today. She started her college journey at Duquesne University before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a degree in Psychology. While at Duquesne, she was involved in Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to creating friendships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Jess joined 84 Lumber nearly two years ago as a Merchandising Manager, and in just three months, she stepped into her current role as Operations Manager at the Sign Shop. She’s been making an impact ever since!

What is your favorite restaurant?

I enjoy many different restaurants, but Il Pizzaiolo is at the top of my list.

What do you do in your free time?

I love to read, play piano, exercise, and travel when I can!

What is your favorite vacation destination?

The Outer Banks will always be a favorite! I have fond memories of going there every year growing up.

Cashmere Blue

What is your favorite project you have worked on at the Sign Shop any why?

My favorite project we’ve done is the entrance branding for Nightcap at Nemacolin. What made it exciting for me was my involvement throughout the whole process – from the initial walk through, to choosing the shade of gold, to helping with the installation. This allowed me to gain an understanding of multiple aspects of our workflow.

Meet Emily, our amazing Production Manager at the Sign Shop. With a degree in Graphic Design from La Roche College, Emily has been bringing her creative flair to our team for the past five years. 

What is your favorite restaurant?

Definitely Longhorn and I get the same meal every time I go!

What do you do in your free time?

 I’m a huge hockey fan so I enjoy watching Pittsburgh Penguins games on tv as well as attending games when I can. I also love Disney and taking trips to Disney World. 

Tell us about your pup 🙂

I have a 7 year old Toy Schnauzer named Mater. Of course he is named after one of my favorite Disney characters. Mater loves to play with toys especially squeaky toys, he loves squeaking them and making you chase him for them. He knows a few tricks, loves to eat ice cream and loves to sleep on pillows. 

What was your favorite project you have worked on at the Sign Shop and why?

It’s definitely hard to pick just one! I always love seeing the final outcome for every project we do! But if I had to choose, a top pick for me would have to be the different projects we have done for RMU. There are quite a few with multiple pieces and parts for different sports. With my love for hockey I would have to say the hockey wall we did for them and the arena graphics are a few of my favorites.

Meet the Team: Jess M.
Meet the Team: Jess M. 150 150 84 Sign Shop

Jess, the current Sign Shop Manager, has been a dedicated member of the 84 Sign Shop team for 11 years, starting her journey in sign production. A Pittsburgh native who grew up in South Park, PA, Jess attended Edinboro University, where she studied graphic design and played soccer. During her time at Edinboro, she was a four-year starter and served as team captain for two years, showcasing her leadership both on and off the field. Jess brings a strong creative background and a passion for teamwork to her role.

What is your favorite restaurant?

This one is tough cause I love food, a lot of fast food too lol. If I had to pick, a few would be Long Horn Steakhouse, Burgatory, and McDonald’s.

What do you do in your free time?

I spend most of my free time with my wife and our dog. We love to travel, golf, and spend time with friends and family. We just traveled to the UK last year and can’t wait to plan our next trip!

Tell us about your pup 🙂

We have an almost three-year-old golden retriever pup named Molson! We flew on a whim to Utah to pick him up!! He loves swimming and LOVES snow. Anything to do with any type of ball. And his favorite special treats are ice cream and peanut butter; whipped cream may be his honorable mention lol!

What was your favorite project you have worked on at the Sign Shop and why?

There have been a lot of projects over the years, but one that comes to mind would be a logo crest we did for Broughton Fire Department. This one was special to me to see from production to install since it was in the town I grew up in! It was very rewarding to get to help with this project and see the final outcome.
